Plenty of debate has surfaced since Stuart Baxter named his latest Bafana squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifying double-header against Seychelles this month. Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas has backed defender Siyabonga Ngezana as a Bafana Bafana prospect, as he highlights the youngster’s attributes.
The absence of the likes of Xola Mlambo, Siphelele Ntshangase as well as Ngezana, who has grown in leaps and bounds since making his professional debut under Steve Komphela last season.
The towering 21-year-old has played all of his side’s fixtures since breaking into Solinas’ side after their opening two clashes of the season, while also scoring twice in three fixtures in September.
The Italian tactician firmly believes the Chiefs youth graduate is worthy of a place in the national team setup, as he possesses “unbelievable” ability. “I respect my players, I love my players. And it’s the same about Siya [Ngezana]. Yes, for me, he can play in the national team,” said Solinas.
“I don’t see too many strong defenders like Siya in the PSL, but this is my opinion. In Bafana, there is a very good coach in Stuart Baxter and he decides. “But, in my opinion, he can play. He’s a young player, he needs to improve, but his ability for a defender is unbelievable, in my opinion.
“He’s strong, fast, a good header of the ball, he has good aggression. So, this guys, in my opinion, has everything for a good career, and to play for Bafana Bafana. I repeat this is my opinion.”
