Details emerge as fired Ole Gunnar Solskjaer addresses Man Utd stars. The Norwegian is on the brink of the sack after United’s slump plunged to new depths following a 4-1 thrashing by Watford at Vicarage Road.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on the brink of being relieved of his duties as manager after yet another humbling Premier League defeat, this time losing 4-1 to Watford. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted to his battered and bruised Manchester United players that he doesn’t know if he will be in charge by the time the next match rolls around.

After being dominated by Manchester City last time out, Solskjaer had hoped that the international break had come at the perfect time for his jaded charges.

Many felt that anything other than a win on Saturday would see the popular former player relieved of his duties after almost three years in the hot seat. But if that jeopardy was supposed to inspire the Red Devils, it did the opposite as they were crushed by the relegation threatened Hornets.

In truth, the hosts could have been out of sight by half time, with David de Gea saving two penalties by Ismaila Sarr, before first Josh King and then the Senegalese forward found the net.

Donny van de Beek halved the arrears after the break, but after Harry Maguire contrived to pick up two cautions in a matter of minutes their challenge faltered. United had chances to regain parity before two injury-time goals hammered what appeared to be the final nails in Solskjaer’s coffin.

Immediately following the debacle, Man United officials called an emergency board meeting to discuss the future of the manager they handed a three-year contract just months previous.

The Times suggest that Solskjaer will be dismissed, with final negotiations ongoing regarding his severance package. And while no official decision has yet been made and despite Solskjaer publicly putting on a defiant front, behind the scenes, his response was reportedly very different.

According to the Independent, Solskjaer told players that he had no idea whether he would be in charge for the trip to Villarreal on Tuesday night. Manchester Evening News report that several United stars were in tears in the Vicarage Road dressing room, resigned to the fact that their manager would lose his job.

Speaking after the game, Solskjaer insisted he still believed he could turn around their increasingly disastrous season – even if his face didn’t seem to believe the words he was saying.

I always have belief in myself, but at the moment it’s a difficult time for us,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports. “I can trust every single one out there to give what they have, but the results are difficult.
